Prostate Seed Implants

This specialized radiation treatment is delivered by implanting tiny pieces of radioactive metal (about the size of a grain of rice) within the prostate gland. These seeds are inserted through the skin and give off low energy radiation which is just right for destroying the cancer but leaves the adjacent organs with a lower risk of long-term injury. This procedure may require a team of physicians, including a urologist and radiation oncologist. Other highly trained staff will also be involved in the procedure, including a physicist.
